We can now proceed with drywall installation. Our new furnace will be installed by mid November. We will be working with the contractor to install the heating ductwork. After this work is complete we can then proceed with the lighting and ceiling.
A big thank you to all who have helped with the planning and preparation, construction, clean up and food fetching for this project.
(Recent Update: The drywall is now all installed, it just needs finishing work. There is now heating in the meeting room area. The ducting is currently being installed.)

Vision of Eagles? So you thought this was a breakthrough laser medical procedure that would give you razor sharp vision??? Guess again fellow flyer. EAA Vision of Eagles is a progressive series of EAA programs activities and experiences which establishes the long-term infrastructure needed to take a child's initial interest in flight and fuel it into a passion.
EAA mumbo-jumbo? Maybe, but, what this means is that the well established programs of Young Eagles and the Air Academy are being looked at as the doorway to bigger goals. The new Eagle Flight Leadership Center, which just opened this summer at EAA headquarters, will be the centerpiece of the program. This 22,000 square foot facility with a Tower of Flight overlooking Pioneer Airport contains classrooms, workshops, computer workstations, and is connected to the AirVenture Museum.
In addition to Young Eagles and the Air Academy, science, math and technology programs for schools are being developed that emphasize aviation related knowledge. Partnerships with Civil Air Patrol, the military, museums, and youth organizations are being developed too.
Where do EAA chapters like 1158 come in? That's the good part. Here's our opportunity to get our hands dirty building a local program for youth that can be a mini-version of the exciting developments at Oshkosh. We need your ideas and energy to pass on our love and knowledge of aviation.
"Town meetings" where different chapters gather to provide an overview of and to answer questions about Vision of Eagles and the relationship of the Foundation to the Association are already happening. We are considering having one of these joint meetings with other chapters in our facility. Watch for newsletter updates.
As many of you know, I taught an Aerospace Technology course at West Bend High School before retiring last year. The many resources of this program are available to the chapter. (textbooks, videos, tools, airplane instruments, etc.) Let's brainstorm ideas for using our wonderful new facility to give us visibility in the community, pass on our aviation commitment and, most importantly, give our youth exciting aviation options. Please e-mail me, call me, or see me at the meetings.

Board Meeting Minutes

OCTOBER 1999
Howard Kaney, President
Dick Feldschneider, Vice President
Russ Kaye, Secretary
Glen Brandt, Treasurer
Keith Brue, Ron Champeny, Jim Dricken, Dan Staehler.
Howard will attend but will be late. He is at the Airport Board meeting.
Ron Champeny reported on the great amount of progress being made in remodeling the facility.
There was further discussion on the furnace situation. Ron Champeny is going to look into the used Paradise Mall units again and try to get them donated or offer a maximum of $300.00 per unit.
8:05 PM Howard Kaney joined us.
He reported that the Airport Board meeting focused on the proposed airport expansion.
Costs could be nine to twenty-five million dollars including the Highway relocation.
Construction could begin in 2004 or 2005.
Chapter 1158 should remain politically neutral so as not to jeopardize our tax-exempt status.
It was suggested that to become more involved in the community that Chapter 1158 should become a member of the Chamber of Commerce.
The Memorial Day Airfest was discussed and it was determined that Chapter 1158 would not support this coming years event but that it should be left up to the individual members to decide what their own involvement would be.
The election of officers for the next term was discussed and the nominations and voting will take place at the November chapter meeting.
