AIRPORT PICNIC SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 26th
by Howard Kaney
For many years the West Bend Airport has hosted an informal picnic each year for airport customers, airport bums, and all other assorted stratas of aviation society. This year is no exception. West Bend Air and our EAA Chapter have agreed to co-host this year's party at the EAA Chapter hangar, where we have space without airplanes to move, grills waiting, tables, etc. The date is Sunday, September 26th at 1:00 PM. Plan to eat at 3:00 PM. Please bring a dish to pass. The sign up sheet is at the counter at West Bend Air, so stop in and say Hi to Irene and tell us what you're bringing. Or give her a call at 334-5603. Cost for hamburgers and brats, plates, etc. is $2.00 per person. Kids 14 and under are free. Refreshments provided. TV available for the Packer game. Just bring your dish to pass, a lawn chair for your airplane viewing pleasure, and a smile. And, of course, families are welcome. Bill Buettner is again volunteering to cook. If you'd like to help him out, give him a call at 334-5905. This group will be a mixture of EAA members, West Bend Air customers, and other aviation friendly folk, so please stop out and meet some new friends.

I'm still looking for anyone who would like to organize a flying event in the hours preceding the picnic. Perhaps a few of you would like to put together a Poker run, or a precision navigation contest, or a fun event of some kind. I hope that you would give this a thought. A few people could make this a very easy task, and certainly fits in with the aviation theme for the day. And of course we could announce the winners in front of the right crowd..... I challenge you and your imagination to come up with an event for the group. Give me a call at 334-9451 if you are interested, and I'll see that we gather the right resources. Thanks, Howard Kaney.

AUGUST 1999

Ron Champeny reported that two used five ton HVAC units were available for purchase. He also reported that the facility needed cleaning up for the upcoming Flying Start program at the next regular monthly chapter meeting. He also stated that a work date is needed after the chapter meeting to cut the west entrance and install the west window.

Thank you for helping at Aeromart
by Don Shane

Thank you to all Aeromart Volunteers. I want to say a THANK YOU to all of you that helped to make AEROMART a success. The heat was terrible, the crowds were great and the efforts were fantastic. I will not try to name anyone by name because I know that someone would be forgotten. I believe that all your efforts will be rewarding to this chapter. We also had a lot of great help from people from outside our chapter and to that we all have to be very thankfull. This AEROMART tent would not have had a chance of succeeding if it were not for the efforts from other volunteers from around the world. We THANK YOU for all knowledge, efforts, ideas and stamina. I have watched the many efforts given by so many to make this chapter a great success. Your many tasks are noticed by many, but not always mentioned. GREAT JOB! It is a pleasure to get to know each of you as time goes on. Hopefully with time I will get to know everyone and put a name and face together with all the memories. THANK YOU, Don M. Shane.

AEROMART NEWS
by Keith Brue, Aeromart Committee Chairman
This news article on AEROMART is the first of a series of three, spread over the next six months.

For those of you who do not know, "Aeromart" is a flea market at the air show in Oshkosh for old airplane parts.

As you may know, the Aeromart Committee (Myself, Glen Brandt, Howard Kaney, Don Shane and Bill Beuttner) accepted a late invitation by EAA to take over the responsibilities of "Aeromart" at AirVenture 1999. The EAA Chapter at Green Bay had been doing it for the past seven years and decided not to do it again in 1999.

Because of the time constraints and the limited information about how business was conducted in the past or the financial results of the effort, we viewed the project as an experiment being conducted on a "Ready-Fire-Aim" basis. Our stated objective was to raise $10,000 for the chapter in 1999, plus learn how to bring an additional $60,000 into the chapter over the next four (4) years.

The bottom line is, though the books are not closed yet, we have reason to believe that we made something over $8,000 for our efforts this year. The final results will be available about September 15th.

This is the result of selling approximately $161,000 worth of merchandise during the event, up from approximately $135,000 last year. We had total of 4,450 items in inventory from 372 consignors from all over the world (including Germany and South Africa) and hosted approximately 9,000 shoppers over the course of 5 days. (Busy place…..)

We are beholden to more than 50 volunteers (30 from our chapter) for supplying the energy needed to pull this off. We have (so far) received considerably more positive comments than negative comments from our customers and consignors and we are more than appreciative of those who helped make it happen. THANK YOU…………..

The next article will be an analysis of the pro's and con's of doing this project again next year, followed by an invitation to our membership to respond with their thoughts and idea.

The third article will be the result of your response to the second letter.

West Bend Air Festival
by Keith Brue, Aeromart Committee Chairman
A HEARTY THANK YOU TO THE SIXTY FIVE (65) VOLUNTEERS FROM EAA CHAPTER 1158 that helped put on the first annual air festival held at West Bend Airport on Memorial Day weekend.

As you probably already know, the event resulted in a number of mixed blessings.

On the plus side:

On the negative side:

Again, thank you for your efforts, and we hope you can support our efforts next year. Your ideas and comments are welcome, as we are currently planning for AIRSHOW 2000.

They are sincerely appreciated.
Howard Kaney, President - EAA Chapter 1158
Herb Baker, President - Baker Company.

On the Fly

Great teachers and educators are among our club's most prized treasures. Each of us can look back upon a person whose wisdom, knowledge, or simple acts of caring made an impression upon us. In all likelihood, it was someone who sought no recognition for their deed, other than the joy of knowing that by sharing in their club experiences and tasks, newer members become more involved in our EAA Chapter 1158 family.

Please share these good experiences with your friends and neighbors, perhaps they show little interest in the sport of flight, however, they may know a person who would want to be a guest at one of our meetings.

Respectfully, Ernestine Lynfoot
