Hi, I'm Dan Staehler the former membership chairman, now made solo Newsletter Editor. The plans were to have co-editors but since making the newsletter is so onsite task oriented, I decided to take it on by myself. Assembling a newsletter may be one thing, but assembly while encoding it into html to be ready to be put onto our web site takes a lot of time and patience. Since this is my first newsletter and I'm first learning html to put it on the net the patience can tend to run low (as I'm sure Steve and Howard would agree). As far as being the newsletter editor there will of course be a few minor and major changes. The minor being that I have a little bit more of a straight forward approach on things as compared to the humorous approach of our former editor. Some of the major changes are that I will prefer to have the articles in by the following schedule:
Issue Input Due Mail by
May/Jun 4/20 early May
July/Aug 6/20 early July
Sep/Oct 8/20 early Sep
Nov/Dec 10/20 early Nov
As far as articles, I'd prefer them either e-mailed or on disk though I will accept typed and hand written articles too (but if handwritten please make things clear). Also, since I'm still learning all this please understand any delay in receiving your copy.
When I try to find the "Airport Section", figuring it could be a real
community asset, I am stymied. Computer wizards may be great at pixels,
bytes, and algorithms, but few can write an index. Since the menu pick is
available, I fervently search the manual for what I am sure will be the
strategy that catapult's me to the top of the virtual infrastructure heap,
the development of an airport. Hardly able to contain my enthusiasm, I
stumble upon the mention of an airport in the "Natural Disasters" chapter.
I quote; "Sometimes planes or helicopters crash. Other than a smashed
building here or there, the main danger form an air crash is fire. Put out
the fire as quickly as you can, then hold an investigation and call it
pilot error. If a plane crashed at the airport, fire the air traffic
controller."
What a sad parody on the state of general aviation in our country. I put
the manual down, shook my head, and resolved to educate my fellow human
beings about what it means to be able to enjoy aviation, something even
Microsoft is unable to comprehend. Life is not meant to be lived behind a
computer.
SPREADING THE ENTHUSIASM
And now for something a little different.....
Have you ever played the computer Simulation SimCity by MicroSoft? I was
playing the "simulation" with my kids one cold winter eve. It's sort of
an exercise in management of a fictitious city with a few real cyber pain
in the rears thrown in for a dose of reality. For example, one must choose
a growth strategy that balances a favorable taxation rate with enough
income to pay for city services. If you choose to skimp on water mains,
and your city grows to the point where fire protection is inadequate, and
there is a fire, well, you get the picture. You can be wiped out in a
cyber minute. Strategies that build other infrastructures such as roads,
utilities, etc. are equally as important.
Chapter Raffle
by Steve Roensch, Raffle Chairman
Those who attended got to see the 95th Anniversary Dyna Wide Glide, our Grand Prize. Pictures were taken for this newsletter and for an upcoming article in EAA Sport Aviation. Following the meeting, about two dozen members walked through the Tesker Hangar, and saw first-hand what our goals and fundraising efforts can deliver. After the tour, many members wanted to sit down and discuss what it's going to take for the chapter to purchase the facility. The enthusiasm was contagious - we talked until after 11:00 pm - and it's important that we maintain the excitement going into these last four months.
Our booth committee has put together a list of events that YOU can sign up for to sell raffle tickets. These folks are working hard to coordinate these events, which are being provided as an easy way for members to sell tickets. PLEASE sign up for several events; contact Dick Feldschneider.
THERE ARE ONLY 4 MONTHS OF SELLING LEFT! THINK CHAPTER FACILITY!! SIGN UP NOW.
Finally, remember our two key raffle points:

What do those two things have in common you say? Well, not a lot, but do join
us for a family fun afternoon at the airport on the 28th of March. Kris
Hinterberg, chapter member and educator, will be conducting an informal
Flying Companion Workshop for any interested individuals. This workshop
is meant for anyone who needs to know a few basics about aircraft operation,
communications, etc. In other words, how about gaining a little
knowledge to allow yourself to more fully enjoy your flying experience? This
workshop is NOT designed to snare you into flying lessons, just allow you
to learn a little in the company of others like you.
In the meantime, guys will cook for the girls. Bring a Slo Cooker pot
of Chili, table service, drinks, and chairs. Plug in the chili at my
hangar, and swap lies for awhile. Go flying. Join us for some kind of board
game tournament for young and old alike. Prizes will be awarded for 1.) Best
VFR chili ( anyone can handle it) and 2.) Most turbulent Chili (you
figure that one out). Bring the family. Come for either or both
events!

Steve Roensch wanted to notify everyone
that our AWOS is partially working now. The phone number is (414)-334-6161.
Please Submit Raffle Ticket Expenses
Steve Roensch asked to spread the word that selling raffle tickets at a swap meet or other
event will not cost money out of our members' own pockets. If someone is
willing to donate their time, their expenses will be covered.
If you have expenses from selling raffle tickets, please submit them ASAP to
Glen Brandt. Expenses that will be reimbursed include booth fees, admission fees,
parking fees and reasonable hotel fees. Food and mileage are not
